The Palmer Community Foundation is one of a baker’s dozen of community foundation affiliates operating under the umbrella of the Alaska Community Foundation. Each of us is uniquely designed to address the specific needs of our respective regions. Each of us is accomplishing this by building a legacy of generational wealth for our communities and our localized nonprofit sectors which serve them.
Mark Webber, author of A Spectrum of Legacies: The Gifts You Leave for Your Children and Community, states “$70 trillion will change hands in the coming decades as older generations pass their wealth to their children.” This knowledge invites a community conversation about how families may design their transfer of wealth to match their lived values and securely carry that forward into the future.
Community Foundations provide a means for individuals to contribute financial resources which, in turn, are invested in the communities and regions they love in perpetuity.
Golden Heart Community Foundation, one of our peers to the north, recently initiated a “High Five” legacy giving campaign. In sum, an individual bequeaths 5% of a single investment asset to their local community foundation or a local nonprofit that aligns with their values. That single contribution continues to grow under the protection of their community foundation and acts as a financial engine to support projects, programs, and neighborhoods for generations to come. PCF is excited to explore new methods of shared investment to support our beautiful region in perpetuity. Learn more about legacy giving at www.palmercf.org/legacy-giving/.
