PCF supported the Forget-Me-Not Quilters of Alaska, a local chapter of Quilts of Valor, with a $1,000 grant to create and award two handcrafted quilts for veterans and active-duty service members living in Palmer.
Quilts of Valor is a nationwide movement that began with an act of comfort and has grown into a powerful symbol of healing, gratitude, and recognition. Since launching in Alaska in 2010, local volunteers have awarded nearly 5,000 quilts across the state. Each one is made in Alaska, by Alaskans, for Alaskans.
The Forget-Me-Not Quilters focus their efforts on honoring Palmer-area veterans, ensuring that those who served, whether in war or peace, feel seen, valued, and appreciated. The impact of these quilt ceremonies is profound. At a recent presentation, a Vietnam veteran who was initially hesitant to be recognized left deeply moved, saying it was the first time he felt truly acknowledged for his service.
The quilts we create symbolize recognition of the courage and valor for those who served honorably. For many recipients, it’s the first time their service has been publicly appreciated.
These ceremonies offer a tangible reminder that a grateful nation remembers. The impact is felt not just by the recipient, but by their families and everyone who bears witness to their story.
The grant from PCF helps cover the cost of fabric, batting, and supplies for two quilts specifically for veterans in the greater Palmer area. The group currently has 90 local veterans on their waitlist, and each quilt is a step toward honoring those still waiting.
We’re honored to support Quilts of Valor in their mission to provide comfort, healing, and recognition to our veterans.
