Over $20k awarded to local nonprofits

Palmer Community Foundation is pleased to announce the seven recipients of our 2025 competitive grant program. PCF awarded $20,109 to promote arts, health and wellness, outdoor recreation, and youth services in the Palmer area. PCF uses proceeds from its permanent endowment to award grants that support charitable organizations and programs in Matanuska River communities. Thanks to our many generous supporters for making these grants possible!

The Palmer Arts Council – Art for Fun ($5,000)
This free after-school program offers diverse weekly arts classes to teens ages 13–18, to help fill the gap left by cuts to school arts programming and provide a much-needed creative outlet for local youth.

Mat-Su Ski Club – Government Peak Recreation Area Trailhead Revitalization ($4,400)
Funds will support the replacement of unsafe picnic tables at Government Peak Recreation Area to create a safer, community gathering space for the thousands of residents who enjoy the trails year-round.

Friends of the Palmer Public Library – AWE Literacy Station Replacement ($3,588)
A new early literacy computer station will restore a vital educational resource for young children lost during the 2023 library roof collapse. The literacy station will support early STREAM learning in a safe and screen-controlled environment.

Mat-Su Sentinel – Photography Equipment ($2,146)
With new professional photography equipment, the Mat-Su Sentinel will improve the visual quality and reach of local nonpartisan news coverage, engaging more readers across the region.

Alaska Wildlife Alliance – Trailhead Setback Signage ($2,000)
In collaboration with Alaska Trappers Association, Alaska Wildlife Alliance will use funds to place signage at 13 trailheads in the Mat-Su Borough and alert users to newly enacted trap setback regulations. The signage aims to make outdoor spaces safer for recreationists and pets while maintaining access for trappers.

Onward and Upward – CPR Training Program Enhancement ($1,975)
New CPR training mannequins will allow Onward and Upward to certify at least 50 students annually. Mannequins will be available for other local organizations to provide CPR skills training.

Quilts of Valor – Forget Me Not Quilters of Alaska ($1,000)
This grant supports the creation of handmade quilts awarded to local veterans as symbols of honor and healing.  The quilts symbolize recognition of the courage and valor of their service.
